Ecuador Itineraries

5 Days & 4 Nights
Day one, 
  • 3.00am - start from the secret garden hostel take a taxi to Quitumbe
  • 4.00am - Bus Quito to Pitirishca 
  • 10am - arrive to Pitirishka, have a late Breakfast of the local cuisine
  • 11am - Hike into the Finca
  • 14.00 - Arrive to the Finca and prepare Lunch 
  • 15.00 - Swim in the stream to freshen up after the hike. 
  • 16.00 - rest
  • 17.00 - help prepare the typical maito de pescado 
  • 18.00 - Eat dinner. 
  • 19.00 - stories around the campfire
Day 2. 
  • 8.00 -  Breakfast. 
  • 9.00 - hike to the waterfall (spiritually important sites for the Shuar people)
  • 12.00 - arrive back to the hut.
  • 13.00 - Lunch
  • 14.00 - Visit the chacra and learn about planting and harvest of the typical jungle food. 
  • 16.00- return to the hut. 
  • 17.00 rest time 
  • 18.00 - prepare a traditional shuar dinner of Yucan and Plantain and what you have been able to forage. 
  • 19.00 - Eat
  • 20.00 - rest.
  Day 3
  • 8.00 - Breakfast.
  • 9.00 - Learn about the different hunting and fishing techniques spear throwing. Poison dart blow pipes 
  • 11.00 - Go to a stream or river and practice one of the typical techniques of catching fish
  • 12.00 - Return to the house and prepare what you have caught. 
  • 13.00 - Visit the nearby community
  • 14.00 - see what the local school is like, 
  • 15.00 - return to the House and rest or swim in the river or take some time to reflect on your experience
  • 19.00 - Eat
  • 20.00 - night walk on the night walk you will be looking for things like insects, Lizards, snakes, Frogs, night monkies, armadillos among other species.
  • 22.00 - return to the hut and sleep
Day 4. 
  • 5.00 - wake up early to go on an early morning hike to find birds. 
  • 7.00 - return to the hut 
  • 8.00 breakfast
  • In the morning have the option of swimming in the river, or taking part in a project to leave something of yourself behind at the project. Or a different hike but what ever you will do it will be not too energy consuming 
  • 13.00 - Lunch
  • Afternoon rest
  • 21.00 - Traditional Shuar ceremony, this can involve rappe or Ayahuasca or getting rid of the bad energies with a typical cleansing ceremony, depending on the person 
Day 5. 
  • 8.00 Breakfast
  • 9.00 hike back to the village on the Highway
  • 12.00 arrive in Tsuraku and wait for the bus back to Puyo and back to Quito 
  • Arrival in Quito roughly at 19.00
  • Taxi back to meeting point
  • 20.00 end of trip!

Welcome to our Community-Based Tour: Immersion with the Shuar People

Day 1: Arrival and Cultural Immersion

Your adventure begins early in the morning at 3:00 am as you depart from the Secret Garden Hostel. A taxi will take you to Quitumbe, where you'll catch a bus bound for Pitirishca at 4:00 am. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic journey through the Ecuadorian countryside.

By 10:00 am, you'll arrive in Pitirishka, a charming village nestled amidst lush landscapes. Immerse yourself in the local culture as you indulge in a late breakfast featuring authentic regional cuisine. Energized and ready to explore, embark on a captivating hike into the Finca.

Reaching the Finca by 2:00 pm, you'll have the opportunity to unwind and prepare a delicious lunch alongside your fellow travelers. Refresh yourself with a rejuvenating swim in the nearby stream, allowing the tranquil sounds of nature to envelop you. Take some time to rest, basking in the serenity of this enchanting location.

As the evening approaches, engage in a meaningful cultural exchange as you lend a hand in the preparation of the traditional Maito de Pescado, a dish of fish cooked in leaves. Savor the flavors of this culinary masterpiece during a delightful dinner shared with your newfound friends. Later, gather around the campfire and listen to captivating stories that have been passed down through generations.

Day 2: Waterfalls and Sustainable Farming

Awaken to a hearty breakfast, brimming with local delights, at 8:00 am. Prepare for an unforgettable hike to a sacred waterfall, a site of great spiritual significance for the Shuar people. Allow the mesmerizing beauty and tranquility of the surroundings to leave a lasting impression on your soul.

Returning to the hut by noon, savor a delicious lunch that replenishes your energy for the next adventure. Embark on a journey into the chakra, a traditional Shuar farm, where you'll learn about the art of planting and harvesting jungle produce. Gain insight into sustainable farming practices that have been passed down for generations.

Afterward, return to the hut and enjoy some well-deserved rest or take a refreshing dip in the river, surrounded by the breathtaking flora and fauna of the Amazon rainforest. As the evening approaches, participate in the preparation of a traditional Shuar dinner using locally foraged ingredients such as Yucan and Plantain. Indulge in the flavors of this authentic culinary experience and appreciate the connection between food and community.

Day 3: Indigenous Traditions and Nature Exploration

Commence the day with a delectable breakfast at 8:00 am, followed by an immersive experience in the fascinating world of the Shuar people. Engage in hands-on practice near a pristine stream or river, discovering the methods employed to catch fish.

Keep your eyes peeled for captivating creatures such as insects, lizards, snakes, frogs, night monkeys, and armadillos, among others.

Day 4: Nature Exploration and Cultural Engagement

Rise early at 5:00 am to embark on an invigorating early morning hike, guided by experienced naturalists, in search of the region's fascinating bird species. Immerse yourself in the symphony of sounds and witness the vibrant colors of these feathered wonders as they awaken to greet the day. Return to the hut by 7:00 am, where a delicious breakfast awaits, providing nourishment for the day ahead.

In the morning, you have the option to choose from a variety of activities. You may opt to cool off and rejuvenate with a refreshing swim in the nearby river, or take part in a community project designed to leave a lasting impact. Engage in a meaningful endeavor that allows you to contribute something of yourself to the project, creating a bond between you and the Shuar community. Alternatively, embark on a leisurely hike that offers breathtaking views and insights into the surrounding landscape, without exerting excessive energy.

At 1:00 pm, indulge in a satisfying lunch that will replenish your energy. The afternoon is dedicated to rest and relaxation, providing you with an opportunity to reflect on the incredible experiences you've had thus far, or simply take in the beauty of your natural surroundings.

As the evening approaches, prepare for a deeply spiritual experience with a traditional Shuar ceremony. Depending on individual preferences, the ceremony may involve the sacred indigenous medicine of rapé or Ayahuasca, or a cleansing ceremony designed to rid the body and spirit of negative energies. Participate in this profound ritual and gain insights into the Shuar's ancient spiritual practices, fostering a deeper connection to their culture and traditions.

Day 5: Farewell and Return

After a satisfying breakfast at 8:00 am, embark on a final hike back to the village, following the scenic highway. This leisurely journey allows you to soak in the surrounding natural beauty and reflect on the remarkable experiences of the past few days. Arrive in Tsuraku around noon and patiently await the bus that will take you back to Puyo, beginning the return journey to Quito.

Anticipate reaching Quito at approximately 7:00 pm, where a taxi will transport you back to the meeting point, marking the end of this extraordinary journey. Take a moment to appreciate the memories and newfound understanding you have gained during your time with the Shuar community. This concluding phase allows you to reflect on the transformative experiences and bid farewell to the Shuar people, knowing that the impact of this cultural immersion will endure in your heart and mind.
