Tsachila Community Chocolate making tour and Cultural Experience

Embark on a captivating 2-day, 1-night Tsachila chocolate-making tour and cultural experience where you'll discover a whole new world within the Tsachila community and learn what life is like for an Indigenous family. From driving through spectacular mountain scenery to learning about traditional food and culture to experiencing a traditional cleansing ceremony performed by a real practicing shaman, this tour is an opportunity to truly immerse yourself in the rich traditions of the Tsachila people. Get ready for a journey that will leave you with a deeper understanding of the people and the land, and sweet memories of making chocolate.

Day 1

• 07:30 Meet at Secret Garden hostal/Carpedm Offices
• 08:30 We will be driving through some spectacular mountain scenery going from Paramo to tropical zones
• 12:30 Arrive at the community meet the local family and get settled in to your rooms.
• 13:00 Learn about some of the typical food from the area, maito and anoila (fish cooked in leaves and mashed plantain.If you would like to join in with the preparation you can give it a go.
• 14.00 we will take a walk around the plantations and try any fruits that are in season and the cacao that is always available.
• 15:00 We will learn about the sacred Tsachila red hair and lines across their bodies. You can also participate in painting your hair like a traditional Tsachila.
• 16:00 Take a break in one of the hammocks
• 18:00 Have dinner
• 19:00 The family will play their typical Marimba music and dance
• 20:00 Experience a traditional cleansing ceremony performed by a real practising shaman.
• 21.00 Bed time.

Day 2 

• 07:30 Wake up and have breakfast
• 08:30 Take an shamanic energizing flower shower.
• 09:30 Chocolate making.
• 10:30 Take a walk down to the stream where if you are lucky enough you can spot a baskilous
• 12:00 Lunch
• 13:00 set off back to Quito
• 17:00 arrive back to Quito
